What's in the Checklist
☐
Create a Family Safe Word today
A code that only real family would know. If someone calls claiming to be family and can't say it — hang up.
☐
Never pay by gift card for any reason
No government agency, court, or family member should ever ask for gift cards. If they do, it is a scam.
☐
Set up a "pause before you act" rule
For any request involving money, they call you first — no exceptions, no urgency overrides this.
☐
Review their phone's recent calls together
Look for repeated calls from unknown numbers. Scammers call multiple times to build trust.
☐
Ask their facility about fraud education
If their community doesn't offer regular cybercrime awareness sessions, ask why — and tell them about Community Shield.
